**Update** I forgot to mention that I used lime instead of lemon, and after about a week, the flavor of the ice cream was really, really good, but I still had trouble with the texture. I plan to try this again, but I’m going to substitute low fat sour cream and half-and-half (light cream) for some of the heavy whipping cream. **
This week, Dolores of Chronicles in Culinary Curiosity chose Blueberry Sour Cream Ice Cream on page 434 of Dorie’s book, Baking: From My Home to Yours. I found some fresh blueberries on sale, and decided to double the recipe, making one small change: I replaced only 25% of the full fat sour cream with low fat sour cream. I also made the galette again to take to a dinner party, and it was polished off in record time!
The verdict? My least favorite recipe to date. Don’t feel bad, folks, I don’t consider this a failure. My husband enjoyed it, and I learned a bit more about what I like in an ice cream recipe. Namely, in a fruit ice cream, I like to taste the fruit. With this recipe, I was overwhelmed by the cream, sour cream, and the grease slick they left on my lips and the roof of my mouth, which is exactly why I don’t like Cold Stone Creamery brand ice cream. So, if you DO like really rich ice cream like Cold Stone, this is a recipe for you!
For the recipe, check out Dolores’s blog. To see how everyone else faired, go to the TWD blogroll.

I don’t like that greasiness either, but once I played with the recipe it was a lot better. Hopefully next week will be more enjoyable for you.
I know what you mean about cream laden ice creams. Their butteriness is a bit overwhelming, glad it was well recieved, though!
Sorry you didn’t care for it. We had whipped cream and lots of blueberries on top so I didn’t notice any lack of berry flavour.
Glad hubby liked it!
Now that you mention it, it did leave a bit of a ‘film’ on my spoon and lips, but I just slurped it all off.
I loved it.
Too bad this wasn’t a favorite! The color looks pretty!
I’m sorry that you didn’t like it. I’m on the fence about it as well.
Sorry you didn’t love this one. It looks really pretty! That counts for something. 😉
My hubs wasn’t a fan of the sour cream aftertaste but ironically he LOVES cold stone. haha. Bummer it wasn’t a favorite but omg just reading that you made the galette again makes me want to do it too. That was so freaking good! Probably my favorite Dorie recipe so far. Yum!

I am right with you on this one. Not one of my favorite recipes but I did learn a lot about ice cream!
ah well, you win some and you lose some! it still looks gorgeous –
I can see what you mean by overwhelmingly rich, but I have to love the pic of the dasher – decadent.
that’s too bad. i didn’t get the grease slick (maybe b/c i always buy light sour cream in australia as the full fat is much thicker than what i’m used to in the states), but if i had, i would have found it definitely unappealing.
Sorry you didn’t like it but it sure does look beautiful.
Sorry that you didn’t like this week’s recipe, but at least you figured out how you like your ice cream!
I’m glad your husband enjoyed it. I used low fat sour cream, too and I don’t think I noticed a greasy after taste. Sounds like the galette was a complete success, though!
Nice color! We didn’t notice any greasiness in ours!??! Hmmmmmmm
Sorry to hear about the greasiness 🙁 But at least you gave it a go! Your picture lloks aboslutely beautiful!
I totally agree. Too much sour cream not enough fruit.
Hmm… bit of a pity since it looked amazing. But you’re right, cooking is never a failure because you learn so much from everything new you try. Can’t wait to see what you come up with at the next TWD. If I’m brave enough, I may even join in.
Well it looked great even if you didn’t care for it. Personally I love the creamy kind of ice cream – Like Cold Stone. But we all are different, that’s what makes us all interesting.
I’m so sorry this one didn’t work out better for you.
I love, love, LOVE the colour of your ice cream.
