Life infringed on my cooking (imagine that!), so I’m a bit behind and will post either later today or tomorrow! Er, make that today. As in Friday. Sorry about that folks! This week, Yolanda of All Purpose Girl picked Kugelhopf, a cross between a cake and brioche. I’ve been wanting to make this since I bought the book, and a few months ago I ponied up the moolah to buy this beauty..
Unlike a lot of TWD bakers, I loved the kugelhopf, and my husband really liked it, too. Growing up, I rarely if ever had American-style baked goods. When my mother baked, her Polish heritage came through, and she made things like this kugelhopf or European-style tortes, which are not as sweet as American cakes, generally speaking.
I made two small adjustments to the recipe. First, I used golden raisins instead of the dark raisins, and second, I added the finely grated zest of an orange to give the bread some depth of flavor. I loved the result: fragrant, yeasty, a hint of sweetness, with the faint hint of orange in the background. To see how everyone else did, check out the TWD blogroll.

Nope, can’t imagine that life would get in the way of baking 😉
I am not familiar with this concept of having a life. Is it fun? 🙂
I understand the concept, waiting waiting waiting!
Great kugelhopf! I loved it too. I think that bread people liked it more, it really is more bready than cakey. Orange zest would be great, I was thinking of perhaps cardamom next time.
I am so happy you found the pan – it is on my search list (damn Canadian Amazon doesn’t sell housewares!)
And Nordice Ware, the best!
This was definitely worth the wait. 🙂 Lovely Kugelhopf!
Like the tall slender shape of your bundt pan.. What brand of pan is it?
oOH, I’m jealous of your beautiful pan. It makes for some beautiful kugelhopf. Yours looks fantastic… the texture looks perfect.
Hey, I bought that same pan! =) Now I’m trying to figure out what else I can bake in it. I really enjoyed the kugelhopf as well. And yours looks like it turned out great.
